Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all! The kids, Big G and I rocked out 2011 and rocked in 2012 in Annapolis this year and wow - what a fun time that was. Prior to welcoming in 2012, I was busy trying to fit massively big toys and dog beds into my massively small house after Santa paid us a visit.
It's all good. All good. Although you know that saying that it takes about 28 to 30 days to form a new habit? Well, I'm beginning to think there is an element of truth in there. Since moving (read, squeezing) Fat Paulie's new hammock bed into the corner of my room and the place where my nightstand once stood, as in, for years and years, I have managed to drop now (at various separate times) a Nook, a cell phone and empty water glasses onto the head of my dog sleeping below me. I just can't wrap my brain around the fact that I no longer have a nightstand there. It's Day 7 of my attempt to reshape my old habit into something that doesn't involve dog heads and concussions. So far, new furniture pattern zero; dog head injuries: 7. But I'm building on that momentum.
To his credit, the dog is firmly entrenched in the fact that this scenario is not changing for him - that his bed is not to be moved because he's decided he prefers that spot and no where else. I know this because despite my nightly and inadvertent assault to his head with inanimate objects, he still comes back every night at 10pm and settles into that bed and goes to sleep. He gets an "A+" for tenaciousness - huge fail, however, for common sense. Do dogs possess common sense? Honestly, my bedroom can't be configured any other way with my bed, dresser, stands and chair. In fact, I've already taken the chair out just to get his bed in. So, it's rather hopeless that I'm going to get used to this before I accidentally kill off my dog.
Anyhoo, moving along.....most everyone speaks about resolutions this time of year. Whatever, that's just way too much pressure for me. I am, however, willing to try new things every new year - sort of a non-resolutiony tradition I have. This year I am giving the "Tabata protocol" a go to see what it's all about. (a 4 minute - vomit-inducing, high intensity daily cardio workout for 28 days - why not, right?) I am also giving yoga a chance to flourish in my exercise regime this year too. I completely hate yoga but I am trying to be more open minded about all things this year - not just the yoga stuff.
And speaking of open minded! Santa gave my 8 year old son DRUMS for Christmas! So, this year is proving already to have many twists, turns, and hope for a wildly great time!
Happy New Year all - looking forward to a wonderful, loving, HEALTHY, successful, family and friend oriented 2012! Muah!
